Currently, the number of people consuming pre-cooked meals is steadily increasing, which led to the decision to investigate the main reasons behind this trend. After conducting surveys and user interviews, we were able to define a User Persona, create a User Journey, and ultimately arrive at the problem statement: How can I learn to cook while saving money?

After defining the problem and understanding the user’s needs, the solution was clear: we needed an app that not only taught people recipes but also provided tips on how to do batch cooking sessions, tailored to each user's weekly budget and dietary preferences, which could be adjusted at any time. This way, users would save time, money, and learn new recipes along the way.

After designing an early version of the app, Foodie was tested with different users, where new ideas emerged and problems were discovered that may have been overlooked during the design and planning phase, such as displaying ingredient characteristics and the ability to search for substitutes. Features such as price filtering, the dietary preference questionnaire, and the simple, intuitive interface were positively received.

We are currently working on incorporating weekly menus based on the user’s available time and specified budget. Additionally, we are developing the option to link the shopping list to the user’s preferred online supermarket, as long as it is available.
